Cool Im a R/W, and i don't klnow any benefits to being it, can anyone tell me some?

Im a R/W and i ha a hard enough time choosing my secondary as it is, and the only one i could think of that might work was Warrior, and a lot of my friends said it would be a good choice. I'm just wondering what benefits it would ave being a R/W? Any opinions are great!

Well, as you don't have any particular reason for your warrior secondary, I'd venture the guess that this secondary is not for you.

I would go so far to say that unless you have a particular reason for selecting a specific secondary, you will be better off with a monk secondary, thereby obtaining unlimited ressurecting potential without the need for assigning attribute points.

Well, the traditional R/W is an evasion tank who can poison or something like that. There are a huge amount of guides on how to make and play a R/W Evasion Tank on this site, just do a search or somthing. Note: you will not be using a bow.

However a R/W with a bow isn't too bad either because of frenzy and flurry (which take no attribute points at all as well). True you take less damage and deal less damage, but you continuously have increased attack output. Plus I hope you arent really getting hit too much ( in PvE at least ) as a ranger. Combined with lightning reflexes and/or tiger's fury you can dish out some serious DPS. You can also put points into tactics as well for even more stances and become a defensive bow ranger in a sense, not to mention there is also healing signet. Other than frenzy and flurry i don't see what else you might be doing with a R/W using a bow.

IMO the best ranger is probably a pure ranger with skills only in Ranger attributes but definitely not the most fun. R/E is also something you should consider. Or R/N mark of pain + barrage etc.
I assume you are talking PvE?

obviously you're pve then.

get yourself a sword and do this.....

serpent's quickness, apply poision, hundred blades (maybe you haven't capped hundred blades since it's the last one you can cap)
start looking at the energy skills in the warrior line that you can use since with your higher egy and expertise this is where you can get an edge.

yea, ermm...if you are just starting the game r/w is the way to go.

best way to play through pve as a ranger, is to stay pure ranger. dont get fancy, like using a melee and gettin up to the fight, dont launch a firestorm/meteor shower and waste all your energy. stick to the good oll bow shots until you can get some better support moves like interuption and condition spreads.

r/w archer is purely for frenzy. best with a longbow/flatbow and you most likely wont get hit, i know i never did and i uesd frenzy with impunity :P

One plus to keep in mind about R/W is that the ranger's Expertise attribute lowers the cost of ALL your attack skills. This includes any Warrior skills you want to use. I was kind of kicking around the idea of making a R/W, focusing in Beast Mastery, and using Ferocious Strike as my elite to get free Energy and Adrenaline. Might be a terrible idea...just a passing thought for now.

Personally, I would say that R/E is the most fun. Many elementalist spells work great when combined with different bowstrings (i.e. - Shocking bowstring and Glimmering Mark or Fiery bowstrig (or Kindle Arrows) and Mark of Rodgort)

I can tell you from experience that R/N is great for PvE. Death magic skills like Consume Corpse and Soul Feast are great for keeping you alive. Not such a great deal for PvP though. IMO, pure Ranger abilities are the way to go for that.

The bottom line is, Ranger's are so versatile, that you'll probably be happy with whatever secondary you choose.

Be a combat trapper. While ranger have some nice stances they pale in comparison to the vast array of defensive stances in the tactics line. Just run in and start dropping traps. If something comes after you use a stance and keep dropping them. Stances and traps have a heafty recharge time so Serpents Quickness would be perfect in this build.

Thanks for the replies everyone, and well the main thing I was thinking of when i made my R/W, was that i would be a great runner at higher levels. And yes, I want to become a trap Ranger, so thanks for the ourput on this guys =D. More help i still greatly appreciated! and to clear things up....I do use a bow, and its amazing bow so I really dont want to just stop using it. And i do a very good job at not getting hit. But i am thinking of changing my secondary to a Monk when i get ascended, but i dont know we'll see how things go =D >.<.

Um, there aren't any. Oh wait, maybe one, if you can stay the hell away from the frontline of the fight using longbows or something...

Frenzy.

Frenzy will rock hard on a R/W who doesn't need Beast Mastery to up Tiger's Fury. [that and it's 3e. at 9 expertise]. You can cancel it with Whirling Defense or whatnot when you come under heavy fire. Or runaway using Escape/Dodge. Frenzy is great utility and is probably the only non-ranger stance a R/W using a bow will need.

Scaphism posted a R/W build using a pet with Rush. Sure you don't have strength, but building adrenaline using a projectile weapon seems MUCH faster than building it with a melee, I have no idea why, but I noticed this too on my warrior.

Frenzy, Rush, and the rest being ranger attack skills is probably an excellent build for starting a fight, and running when the going gets tough...

for trap ranger to me it's always better to be R/Me so you can run Mantra of Resolve since traps are so easily interrupted. But that's PvP mentality I guess. In PvE I guess you'll trap and then agro, so serpent's quickness might be your stance of choice

well ill say this a r/w is a very fun char to use. I have great fun with him, b/c of his versatilty. you can melee, you can trap, you can interupt, you can range attack, you can spike, and you can be a runner, with 4 run skills in your bar i ve been able to run for 30plus seconds, very nice!!!! oh and you can poisons!! Switch in itself is very fun to do, poisons first, then interupt, then spike or lay a trap, highly effective!! Been having alot fun with this char and will continue to use this char over my w/m!! Ascended and both 15 attribute quests completed! Need infusion of armor!! oh and some more elites!!

Humbly,

I am R/W and at high level i am pure ranger, but i find that Sprint alone makes it worth having warrior my secondary, especially at low level. flurry is also really nice untill you get tiger's fury. but for the longest time i had sprint as part of my build, simply to escape mobs in pve. just my 2 cents.
